Climeet: the only French tool recognized internationally

Climeet : l’unique outil français reconnu à l’international pour calculer les émissions de GES lors des événements
  • June 11, 2024

Meegan Jones from the Institute for Sustainable Events (ISE) embarked on an evaluation of calculators, tools, and services for calculating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to determine where each tool stands and to highlight the different approaches that might be suitable for various types of events.

After reviewing nearly forty tools, calculators, and applications designed to calculate GHG emissions for events, Meegan Jones narrowed her selection down to fifteen calculators or services specifically designed for events, in addition to a range of tools specific to participants, sectors, or subjects. Let's explore the results of this evaluation together.

The 5 "Ready to use" carbon calculators according to Meegan Jones

According to Meegan's evaluation, five calculators, including Climeet, were very close to meeting all her needs, thanks to their categorization and flexibility. We are thus delighted to be among this top 5 alongside Trace by Isla, Green Events Tool, Green Producers Club, and ImpactALL.

Let’s delve into the details to understand how Climeet stands out as one of the best tools globally in the quest for more sustainable event production.

Strengths of the Climeet Solution

Ready to Use: Climeet is based on an online platform with secure connections and adopts a detailed approach to measuring GHG emissions, offering great flexibility to add categories.

Comprehensive Approach: According to her evaluation, Climeet measures almost everything Meegan was looking for in a tool and is very suitable for precise measurement.

Ease of Use: Climeet offers practical features such as the ability to set up templates to copy or duplicate previous events, saving time during data entry.

Key aspects where Climeet stands out

Travel: Climeet distinguishes between the travel and accommodation of participants and staff, which is very useful according to Meegan’s evaluation. Additionally, she highlights that Climeet differentiates between travel to the event and travel during (or around) the event, which is an interesting feature because when the organizer looks for travel data, they can identify the different impacts of travel related to the event this way.

Accommodation: The tool asks for the number of nights, by type of accommodation. It includes star ratings for hotels, as other tools do, but uniquely, Climeet also includes other types of accommodation. It includes the distance between the accommodation and the event, as well as the mode of transport, and integrates the GHG emissions from these travels into this GHG category.

Training and Awareness: Climeet requires all users to take a short e-learning course before accessing the tool, thereby enhancing the understanding of climate change and GHGs.

Meegan Jones' opinion on Climeet

This tool was satisfying to use and I highly recommend it.

A unique feature is that it requires all users to go through an e-learning short course before accessing the tool, to upskill on climate change and GHGs comprehension.

It has a complex approach to work out energy consumption estimates, which is helpful for those events with venues that won’t or can’t provide kWh. It asks building type and age, venue size, number of days used, what type of heating, green energy produced onsite, and the season of the year.

It also collects gas used as a separate data point. You can also choose to input actual data (kWh) or litres of fuel for generators.

A big thank you to Meegan, one of the most experienced individuals in the field of event sustainability, for this valuable review and comparison of the 15 main carbon footprint calculators in the industry. This is incredibly thorough work, which we are certain will make a difference. Click here to access the full analysis.

In conclusion, Meegan Jones' evaluation highlights that Climeet offers a robust solution for calculating GHG emissions at events, thanks to its unique combination of features, user-friendliness, and reliability.
